How to Renew License for FortiGate and FortiSwitch

Hello,

I have a request regarding license renewal.
I’ve received two new Contract Registration Codes for renewing licenses — one for a FortiGate and one for a FortiSwitch device.

These devices were already licensed previously, and now I need to renew them.
As I understand it, for FortiGate, the process is:

System → FortiGuard → Enter Registration Code

Is that correct?

As for the FortiSwitch, it is managed through the FortiGate.
How should I apply the license in this case?
Do I need to register it separately, or is it handled via the FortiGate interface?

I would appreciate your guidance on the correct steps.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @Liza1 ,

To do that via classic method:

  • Log in to support.fortinet.com and navigate to Assets → Register/Renew.

  • Paste the registration code, choose Renew, select the FortiGate and FortiSwitch serial number, accept the terms, and finish.

  • On the firewall, click Refresh License or run execute update-now. Propagation usually completes within 30 minutes (up to 24 hours on busy days). After FortiGuard synchronizes, the FortiGate automatically updates the licence-expiry dates.

If the firewall has no Internet access, download the entitlement file from the portal and upload it by following these below links.

PS: A FortiSwitch registration code cannot be entered in the FortiGate GUI.
