Or what is the easiest way to do this?

Yes you will have to upgrade it manually. You can find a list of the latest versions on support.fortinet.com----> Firmware download---> forticlient

There are settings in Forticlient to enable/disable the auto-update. You can enable auto-update in FortiClient menu >> Settings >> System (top of the tab).

unfortunately i don't have these settings to choose from, is there an .ini file that can be edited?

Are you using the free version of forticlient or the EMS licensed version of forticlient? If you are using the free version of forticlient then that option is not available.
