Hello,
i have a Fortigate 500 with FortiOS 5.4.6 in use.
We have a messenger names lanegram, which uses broadcast to communicate with other pcs. Now we have a new subnet, where pc's at. Now we have to enable broadcast forwarding. Is that advisable? What are pros and cons?
And how do I implement this? Only with a policy?
Thanks for any advise.
Kind regards
Tobias

Hi Tobias,
Did you define the new subnet in firewall object>addresses? If you have already define it than it should work (provided you have selected source and destination address>all). If you haven't define it, go to addresses and define and re-visit your policy to include it in source and destination addresses.
Regards,
Not correct, 1st broadcast are typically ttl=1 so they are never forward or routed. Next you will not find a broadcast subnet in the routing table.
OP, can the messenger service use "multicast" as an alternative? If so, that multicast route.
