Fortisandbox - Performance Xenserver vs. VMWare vs KVM

Hi!

I am just evaluating Fortisandbox VM on Xenserver 7.1.

The performance is quite bad although the hardware of the Hypervisor is very fast.

Did anybody here try Fortisandbox on another hypervisor? How was the performance?

Regards,

KPS

Hi,

we run several installations of Fortisandbox VM on VMware. We consider the performance to be reasonable compared to the Hardware models.

What is your setup and do you have some performance numbers?

Hi!

The Hypervisor is quite fast and at the moment "exclusively" for the Sandbox-VM

2x Xeon E5 2640v3

I assigned 8vCPUs and 24GB memory the the Fortisandbox which should run 4 Windows 7 VMs

Preparing the VMs after a reboot needs half an hour. Scanning office-files is very slow (about 600s).

Sometimes, preparing a VM leads to a timeout...

@RomanR: how would you provision a VMware FSA to perform at par with a FSA-3000E, based on your experience? I'm running a PoC at the moment with the hardware and would like to know whether a VM FSA would be realistic.

hi,

exactly the same problem.

xenserver 7.0 newest patchlevel.

fortisandbox VM 2.4.1.

x240 Compute node with 2xXeon E5-2660 - 8 Core and 256gb RAM

sandbox works in slow motion. at the moment the sandbox is the only vm on this blade - with 4 clones (3 Win10 and 1 Win7 with office) - the sandbox has 8 vCPU and 32bit memory. it even dont work with 2 clones.

the clones hangs and have timeouts and i always get the message: Sandbox VM WIN7X86VMO16 (or win10) is not in good condition, waiting for recovery. than the - Deploy VM clones reinitializing. this takes about 45min - and after this it works for 5 min in slow motion and the the same from the beginning.

on the same hardware it works with the test vm (POC) - but there we had windows xp and win7 clones and a interim build. but with this interim build it also dont work with this new clones. it also dont work with xenserver 6.5.

the sandbox itselve works in good performance - but the internal windows vm (clones) are hanging. so -i think, at the moment sandbox 2.4.1 with a new license (win10 and win8.1 and win7) dont work

i have other xenserver 6.5 with sandbox 2.3.3 and xp and win7 clones - this works fine.

Im using a Fortisandbox VM for vmware, with 14 virtual machines, Im not sure about cores but I overdid the memory with 64 GB of ram, and performance is very good, one vm detonation is about 120 seconds

Hi KPS, hi michael,

We have exactly the same problem - FortiSandbox 2.4.1 - but with kvm in a testinstallation at a Xeon E5-2640 - 8 Core with 48GB RAM and 4x 500GB SSD

As described by michael - exactly the same problems - even with just one clone running ...

We have an open case for 5 days - but until now no useful help ...

A very sad story for a not really inexpensive product ;)

Best Regards,

Claus

We are running FSA 2.4.1 on VMWare with 4x Win7 Clone (2x X86 and 2x x64) .

System has: 20gb memory and 8 core cpu.

In the beginning we had some issue with Vm's getting stuck (always the office vm's) but after changing the number of clones it works now ok.

FYI FortiSandbox 2.5.0 is out since today!
