I found something very interesting that I wanted to share. I mistakenly did not submit the full user name@email-address within the login credential box and some how my Fortimail 100C appliance authenticated me.
I found this strange behavior for a appliance that operates in multi tenant fashion and houses multiple domains. The version of code v5.1,build278,140409 (5.1.2 GA)
This would be very bad if you had multiple domains with the same user;
e.g
john@example1.com
john@example2.com
Is this a bug or normal behavior? For the unit to authenticate by shortname ?
You could check the mail setting -> Default domain for authentication, if this is configured, you can use only username to authenticate instead of full email address.
