Fortigate Appliance First Time Set-up

Fortinet is working at my place looks good the equipment is nice. I teeter from one idea to another as I look through the interface. I had to use YouTube to get me through hooking-up the appliance. It works good, I can pause backup and go forward through the videos. Enhanced web and telephone support was necessary to get me logged into the dashboard. I could not reset the devise when advised over the phone. Support told me I did not have and support subscriptions. I mentioned it should go online without a subscription so I was offered to reset my device with a phone call. I could not hear and the call dropped three to four times. It was time to gave it a break for months to realize the reset button has to be hit for a long time to get the device to restart. Support told me this after I purchased the supports subscription for two of my devises. Knowing how to reset the devises made all the difference in the world for setting-up the FortiGate appliance. The login is now easy. I had internet outage from changing the settings it was easy to fix with a reset also did not take long to get the hang of it and now I have some ports named with the internet service provider as a WAN source on all the ports. I added a widget on the desktop for watching the bandwidth of my modem.

To be more precise I had purchased three devices Fortigate, Fortiswitch, and FortiAP. I opened the boxes and plugged everything together and connected to the internet. The dashboards conflicted between the devises. I opened the Fortigate dashboard and only changed the login. Next, I opened the Fortiswitch dashboard and didn't see much need for adjustment. The problem here is the Fortiswitch dashboard used the same IP address as the Fortigate dashboard. After I opened the Fortiswich dashboard the Fortigate dashboard would no longer open. I had not set-up the Fortigate any! Nothing worked until I purchased support. The devise worked without setting them up through the dashboards, I could tell on the streaming televisions I had plugged in. With the televisions working on the computer the Fortiswitch gave me a message invalid login. The reason I say the televisions worked is the programming showed an improvement immediately. Well, it fixed now and I still have some more setting-up to do. The FortiAP shows on Fortilink however the Wifi radios do not show working.

You should probably follow the FortiLink documentation to get the switch fully set up and managed by the FortiGate. See this article: https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortiswitch/6.4.2/devices-managed-by-fortios/821883/connecting-fo...

Once this is done, you can set up the FortiAP as per: https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortiap/7.6.0/fortiwifi-and-fortiap-configuration-guide/405097/wi...

Hi,

It seems like you have gone through quite a journey with setting up your Fortinet devices. Let's address the issues you are facing with the FortiAP not showing as working on FortiLink: To troubleshoot the FortiAP not showing as working on FortiLink, you can follow these steps:

1. Check FortiAP Connection: Ensure that the FortiAP is properly connected to the network and powered on.

2. Verify FortiAP Configuration: Double-check the configuration settings on the FortiAP to ensure it is correctly set up to communicate with the FortiGate.

3. FortiLink Configuration: Make sure that the FortiAP is properly configured to connect to the FortiGate via FortiLink. Check the FortiLink settings on both the FortiAP and the FortiGate.

4. VLAN Configuration: Verify that the VLAN settings on the FortiAP and FortiGate are aligned and configured correctly for communication.

5. Security Fabric Connection: Ensure that the Security Fabric Connection (includes CAPWAP) checkbox is selected in the Administrative Access section on the FortiGate for the FortiAP connected to a FortiSwitch.

6. Troubleshooting Logs: Check the logs on both the FortiAP and FortiGate for any error messages or indications of connectivity issues. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with the FortiAP not showing as working on FortiLink.
