I am new to FortiGate. Our network engineer got us a 60F and then left the organization. We are migrating from a Cisco switch that has reached end of life. The new switch has been configured but when we plug it into the Fortigate, traffic doesn’t seem to pass through. It’s enabled in the web interface. Is the Fortigate supposed to give the switch an IP address?

A basic but fundamental question: Are you trying to make the new switch as an L3 switch and let it be the GW to all devices behind it? Or you want to make the switch as an L2 switch but want it to grab a management IP from the FGT?
Toshi
Hi,
If you want to act the Switch act a L3 device, then Fortigate can be configured to give an IP address to the Switch. Incase it's an L2 Switch, Fortigate will not give any IP address to the switch.

Manosh
Hello
So assigning IP depends in configuration. Need to check if any DHCP on fortigate on that interface.
L2 switch will not send and DHCP request you need to confirm the configuration first.
