In the specification, it say that the wan2 and DMZ port are used for heartbeat port.
I also would like to use the DMZ port for DMZ configuration rather then using it as heartbeat port.
But I am unable to assign other port to use as heartbeat port.
I am using firmware v5.0 build0292,140801

Are the other ports configured as a switch, or are they set in interface mode, where port2, port3, etc. are discrete ports?

Convert your Fortigate to Interface mode from switch mode and you can use any port for heartbeat. Let me know should you need any help converting to Interface mode.
