Hey guys, I recently got involved in a project where they deployed a bunch of Fortigates 60F on 6.4.0. I obviously plan on upgrading firmware but just wanted to make sure that by upgrading, none of the configuration gets messed up. Is it just as simple as doing the firmware update?
Hi sarjekemo,
Thank you for posting to the Fortinet Community Forum.
Please follow the upgrade path while upgrading to any version.
If you follow the upgrade path then you will not use the configuration.
Please follow the link below:-

Let us know if this helps.
Thanks
Hi sarjekemo,
There should be no messed up with configuration. Please make sure to check upgrade information and known issues in release notes of desired version.

Hey sarjekemo,
in addition, we have a handy upgrade path tool:
https://docs.fortinet.com/upgrade-tool
You can put in the FortiGate device, current version and target version, and the tool will provide you with a recommended upgrade path :)
Please make sure to read the release notes before upgrading, especially the known issues section and any special upgrade notices that may be included to see if there are any issues/notices that may impact you.
But in general, yes, configuration usually survives upgrades along recommended upgrade paths.
There may on occasion be a few changes in where specific configuration is located, and some configuration may change from CLI-only to GUI available, or vice-versa, or some features are added/removed, but you should find mention of that in the release notes, and the upgrade process is set up to mitigate this and ensure the configuration remains in place.
