Fortigate-5001FA2 firmware upgrade

I' m trying to upgrade from build8410,070228 to the most recent version (FGT_5001FA2-v300-build0660). The image uploaded successfully and a popup message informed me that the upgrade process was beginning and I should refresh my browser after a few minutes. Well, it' s been over an hour now and nothing has changed. Do I need to manually restart the FG, or what?

I had the same problem on my FWF60B. Looked in via the console cable, and the unit was stuck in reboot mode. I had to send the thing back to Cali. for RMA. I was unable to even get to the startup menu to format/TFTP load the image back in. Even on the FWF60Bs, the upgrade process is done in five minutes. You have a problem. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I just consoled in to the FG and typed ' diagnose test update info' and this is part of what scrolled by: Fri Mar 28 07:34:51 2008 upd_status_api.c[645] upd_status_extract_status_info-Invalid AVDB status in fo format(AVDB-1205412728-1*AVEN-1205412728-1*NIDB-1 Fri Mar 28 07:34:51 2008 upd_status_api.c[645] upd_status_extract_status_info-Invalid AVEN status in fo format(AVEN-1205412728-1*NIDB-1205412728-1*NIEN-1 Fri Mar 28 07:34:51 2008 upd_status_api.c[645] upd_status_extract_status_info-Invalid NIDB status in fo format(NIDB-1205412728-1*NIEN-1205412728-1*SPRT-0 Fri Mar 28 07:34:51 2008 upd_status_api.c[645] upd_status_extract_status_info-Invalid NIEN status in fo format(NIEN-1205412728-1*SPRT-0-0*) in /etc/upd.d Fri Mar 28 07:34:51 2008 upd_status_api.c[645] upd_status_extract_status_info-Invalid SPRT status in fo format(SPRT-0-0*) in /etc/upd.dat Don' t know what most of it means, but I do know what the word " invalid" means. How does one view the firmware image files on the FG? There' s a hard drive or flash drive in there somewhere. I want to see if the file I uploaded in still in there, taking up space.

That would be a job for support. My bet would be to reboot. There' s usually a second bootable partition on the higher end units. After the reboot, make sure all policies, etc. are intact, backup once again, and upgrade following the path documented by Fortinet in the upgrade .pdf file. It' s located in the same directory as the firmware. I don' t believe you can go directly from where you were to where you want to be. You probably need to get to at least the highst patch version in MR3, then MR4 Px, then MR5 P3+ before jumping up to MR6. Again, look to those release notes.
