Is the Fortigate 30G a direct replacement of the 40F?
I recommend the 40F to my small customers, 10-15 devices with an internet bandwidth below 500mbps. Is the Fortigate 30G a good product for this size of customers?
Thanks!

Hi DannyV
Due the fact Fortigate 30G has only 4 ethernet port, it should be recommend for a very small offices or home offices.
I believe the FG40F and FG60F are most appropriate devices for the type of clients that you have. Of course we are not considering cost of the device and plan of expansion but those factor should be considered of course.

Hello DPadul,
There is a group of very small customers that will have no issues with the port limitation. In those cases, do you think the 30G will perform well considering the quantity of users and bandwidth I mentioned before?
Hi DannyV
It is hard to say how it will be the performance, to have an idea about the performance we need to know more details.
What is a 'good performance' on your point of view? What are the application used by your customer? Do they request a lot of bandwidth? Are the application impacted by delays?
In summary we need more data for such decision.
If you ask me is a Ferrari a good car, my answer will be, it depends.
If you want speed and not concern about cost, and carrying no more than 2 people it is a great car. But if you planning to carry a family of 4 people, save on maintenance and petrol a Ferrari does not seem what you are looking for. Did you get my point?
I see your point, but my initial question was related to entry level devices. Based in my research, the 30G and the 40F specs are very similar. Does the 30G will be the direct replacement of the 40F?
I don't think so.
Hello,
Both FortiGate 40F and 30G have very similar hardware.
FortiGate 40F performs slightly better in case of firewall/IPsec scenarios. In case of UTM results depends on how the test is conducted.
Performance datasheet:
FortiGate 30G

FortiGate 40F

For the moment only FortiGate 30G and FortiGate 50G are available.
FortiGate 30G/40F should be able to handle 500mbps link in case of firewall/IPsec scenarios, however they may not be able to handle UTM (especially when deep inspection is configured).
I would like to add that proxy and SSL VPN features may not be available. Please find the details by following the links below:
