Fortigate 20c and 3G USB modem stick

Have a nice day, I am trying to configure USB 3G modem on a Fortigate 20c . I tried with Huawei K3765 and D-Link DWM-156 ; both are unupported devices, but Fortigate 20 have capability for custom modems. I have inserted the vendor id and product id in custom modem menu, but the devices are not recognized. It seems that Fortigate have troubles to manage composite devices ( that appears first as a USB storage device with Windows and Mac drivers) ; anyone have experienced about this ? Many thanks in advance. Cristiano Cornini Network and Systems Technical Support Data Flow Srl www.dataflow.it

What firmware are you using? 4.3.8 is known to have problems with 3g modems! br, Roman

Firmware version is v4.0,build0637,120817 (MR3 Patch 9) ; it' s a brand-new unit, updated with last released firmware.

Hi, You need to find out what " magic" string to send to the modem to make it flipp to modem mode, check one of my older posts: http://support.fortinet.com/forum/tm.asp?m=76983&appid=&p=&mpage=1&key=modem&language=single&tmode=&smode=&s=#76983

Many thanks Selective, according with your older post, i have searched the correct parameters for Huawei K3765 and insert this from command line: config system 3g-modem custom edit 1 set vendor Huawei set model K3765 set vendor-id 12d1 set product-id 1520 set init-str 55534243123456780000000000000011060000000000000000000000000000 next edit 1 set vendor Huawei set model K3765 set vendor-id 12d1 set product-id 1465 end Now the USB green LED on Fortinet is ON . So it seems that the parameters are ok for Huawei K3765 ( supplied from Vodafone Italy). But i have noticed that when power-cycling the Fortinet, i must rewrite parameters from command line, otherwise the usb stick is not recognized ( USB green led on Fortinet is off ). How can i avoid to rewrite parameters from command line at every power-cycling ? Many thanks in advance Cristiano

As it´s a unsupported modem, you could get some weird behavior I would recommend you to turn off the " USB mass storage" with AT commands, then the modem would always be in modem mode. a quick google search gave me this AT command to disable the modem, try that: AT^U2DIAG=0
