Fortigate 200F fans always at 100%? (9000+rpm)

Or... it feels like they are always at 100% full blast and that makes noices ... At that price point, I am flabergasted that we can't control these... or I have missed an option somewhere?
 
Firmware 7.2.3, but I remember it was at 100% also with the 6.x firmware. Ambient temperature is about 22 Celsius (71.6F).

I went to the top, and asked for an official request.

"Thanks for reaching out regarding this NFR request.

 

Regarding the suggestion of giving the end user the capacity to change the fan controls, this, however, cannot be done.

 

Your FortiGate unit is under warranty and will be covered for any HW fault for as long as it will be properly licensed with a support contract or will have not reached EOL. This level of support is available with the fans at their current settings. There is no desire to lower the performances to lower the noise level of the appliance. The FortiGate models FG-100F and up are designed to be rack mounted and their noise level can be reviewed in their relevant datasheet."

 


 

So in other words, currently Fortinet will not invest in the functionality of reducing the noise or/and the speed of fans, since the goal is to have theese FG-100F and up models in a server room/rack.

You may consider to check CPU usage "get system performance status".

I have a FG-100- exactly the same issue.

 

I agree- the fan speeds should be better controlled.

In my case the FG-100 has very low average CPU usage- that is not the problem for me. Can you confirm if the fan speeds on these units should be variable? Or are they always fixed speed?

I made a lab test (FortiGate 200F) and I noticed that fan speed is adjusted dynamically (4 FAN 2 SYS FAN). Unit was almost idle.

Can you do a request to the coders?

 

- A silent mode? With an internal curves more like this : all time 20%, over 40C fans at 25%, over 50C fans at 30%, over 60C fans at 50%, over 70C fans at 60%, over 80C fans at 100%

 

Or a way to manually change values?

Can confirm: FG400F recently installed replacing a 500D running FOS 7.0.11b0489 (waiting for 7.2 to hit the 400-series). It's been running this way for about a month since the initial install.

Came here to also mention I would LOVE a fan control mode on the non large models like the 200/201F series. It's twice the sound of the old 101E it replaced, it's sitting in a rack next to my desk so it's a tad annoying.
