Forticlient VPN IPsec connection issue

Hi there, I'm encountering problems with the newest FortiClient VPN application. The primary problem is that after hitting the connect button, it displays "Disconnect," yet when I verify the IP, I'm aware that it's not connected.

Hello, in response to this message regarding the solution: the user we attempted to  log in was deactivated in the firewall configurations. Thus, we facilitated access for him, and he logged in effortlessly right away.

Hi

  • Which FortiOS version on the remote FGT?
  • Do you have admin access on the remote FGT?
  • Is your client Windows 11?
  • Are you connecting over WiFi?
  • In case it is Windows 10, did you try installing MS Visual C++ Redistributable?
  • Can you check the FCT logs to see if any relevant log is shown?

Hi

There are many issues reported regarding "Windows 11 + WiFi + FortiClient VPN".

Usually it is due the the driver. And sometimes changing the WiFi driver can fix the issue.

You can confirm if it caused by the WiFi driver by trying a VPN connection through the Ethernet link instead of WiFi.

If it is confirmed then the following could fix the issue.

  • Install FortiClient VPN 7.4.2 instead of 7.4.0. You can download it from support portal but you need an valid contract
  • Update your WiFi driver, otherwise downgrade it, otherwise change it if possible
  • Try with other WiFi adapter, like USB WiFi adapter

So eventually after installing Forticlient 7.2.8 the issue got resolved.

With a new user the new issue i have is that after it connects it drops the internet.
Do you think you can provide me any helpful tip for this case ?

Do you mean there is no internet connection anymore but the VPN still up and working?

If so then you may have one of the following :

  • you are in full tunnel mode, i.e.: VPN has injected a new default gateway through the tunnel
  • or VPN has injected a new DNS server IP to your client

Can you check this?

I mean that when i press connect after entering the credentials.  His connection drops.. no internet for 2 minutes and the FortiClient disconnects.

Never seen this before.

Try check in Windows events and FCT logs if there are some relevant logs.

Or try other versions, like 7.4.2 and 7.2.7 and 7.0.13.
