We migrated from Forticlient 7.2.13 to 7.4.4. ESXi VM appliance
We backup our VMs with Veaam.
We have the following settings for most backup jobs.
But I'm getting the following error with the Forticlient EMS 7.4.4 server.
If the "Enable application-aware processing" option is deselected, the backup completes successfully.
Regarding Postgres, I thought it wise to check the "Enable application-aware processing" option.
Is a VM backup without this option a reliable restore?
Thanks for sharing, Steve.
This puts me in a dilemma.
On one side this is one more reason to use EMS installer on Linux VM because it is more flexible for custom operations.
Meanwhile in VM mode the OS is hardened by Fortinet so it is definitely more secure than regular Linux installation.
it appears that in 7.4.5 and 7.6 you would be able to create a user with shell access, https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiClient/Troubleshooting-Tip-Support-for-multiple-Linux-users-i...
Not really - it will be just another user, without shell access.
Confirmed by Fortinet technical support
hmmm, in the kb now archived, irc it stated that the newly created user would have shell access so maybe fortinet decided otherwise in the meantime.
cannot confirm this, but i'm pretty sure that it said it.
@MZBZ gave me some hope in a later post.
EMSCLI tool has been improved to provide more OS-related control in 7.4.5 (which can also be added to 7.4.4 via hotfix id 1200663)

I understand from what he said that it allows some Linux shell commands.
However I couldn't find yet this hotfix for 7.4.4 to test it.
