FortiWiFi and FortiAP

Can the wireless built in to a FortiWiFi 60D be used in conjunction with a FortiAP 221C? In one Fortinet installation the coverage from the single FortiAP 221C is barely adequate. Using the FortiWiFi wireless would help the coverage. It looks from the UI on the FortiWiFi 60D that this is possible but I'm not sure if it is.

Yes, you can. It is best if they are on the same firmware platform (e.g. both on 5.0.X, or both on 5.2.X).

If you want them both on the same SSID, create one that is a "tunnel" mode, and assign that SSID to broadcast on the built in WIFI radio, and on the Auto or custom AP profile for the AP itself. If you do not care about the addressing scheme being different or the same SSID, you can leave the built in SSID to run on the built in radio, and create a "Bridge" mode ssid to run on the 221C AP.

The only advice I have is try to avoid using a "tunnel" mode and software switch on an interface to feed an AP at the same time (double processing power on the unit).

Look through the patch notes for the firmware you are running on both devices -- it usually tells you want models (on either) are supported (and on which firmware level).

Dave,

Are you saying that you can use the FortiWiFi wireless and the FortiAP wireless at the same time if the firmware for the respective devices is compatible?
