FortiOS and Fortigate Image

I see the FortiOS and Fortigate Image on Fortinet Support.

I'd like to know how are there different?

Note:

1. Port1 is a management port (cannot use in firewall policy) I tried to change port name but it's not work.

2. port 2 is a port1

Hi, yes, there is quite a lot of images on the support site, the one you need depends on the virtualization platform you are using.

You cannot rename interface numbers, port1 will still be port1.

There is no such term "management port" in virtual Fortigates - any port can serve as a management port.

Regards VM images on the support site, see attached screenshot with comments to help you decide which one you need:

Thank you so much for your answer. It's very useful for me.

I already downloaded for FOS (KVM) and FGT (KVM) and installed on eve-ng.

and I'd like to know how are both firmware different?

Please find the image for the details below.

1. Why is the port different on eve-ng for FOS image?

2. I can access the internet from VPC with FOS firmware (it's normally for FGT KVM image).

Thank you in advance.

Hi, the port is different as I guess EVE-NG just counts ports starting with mgmt as the 1st one, so port1 becomes second in the count and EVE names it "port2".

The difference is in licensing, see more details here https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/FOS-VM-License-management-validation-and-troubleshooting... . It is just usually that I have 60-days eval license I get from our Fortinet Account Manager, so for this I have to use regular FGT VM, not FOS/ Therefore I did not try using FOS beyond its 1 hour grace period.
