FortiOS Dedicated management CPU

Hello,

What are the fortigate models which supports dedicated management CPU? From which version this feature is supported. Is there any implication on dedicating a CPU for Management?

Warm regards,

Thiyagarajan B

Hello Thiyagarajan,

May I know which device you have and the  firmware version running on it?

Also, where did you get to know about the dedicated management for CPU, any doc?

According to http://docs-legacy.fortinet.com/fos50hlp/50/index.html#page/FortiOS%205.0%20Help/new-features-5.0.5....

"FortiGate units in the 2U or High-End categories (models 1000 and above) can now be configured to have a dedicated management CPU"

and

"By having a dedicated management CPU, access to the management GUI and CLI is guaranteed even under when the unit is under a heavy traffic load."

Hello Joshi, Do have 1240B and few in 3k series and running 5.0 version. Just wanted to know if this dedicated CPU for management is possible to reach the boxes on issue scenario.

Thanks denache, let me check the doc if the feature is supported in all build of 5.0.

Warm Regards, Thiyagarajan

Hello Thyagarajan,

As mentioned in the document, because the Fortigate dedicates a CPU core for the management related services, even under heavy load, the Fortigate management services will be UP.

NOTE: Using a dedicated management CPU may have an impact on the overall performance of the FortiGate unit.
