What are the "recommended" method(s) to migrate a configuration from FML hardware to FML VM?

Note that my FML was in gateway mode.

I did it with a primitive method:

1. First thing I did is to align at the same version for FML physical appliance and FML VM.
2. Then run full backup on the physical appliance.
3. After that I opened the backup file, took the relevant config sections and pushed them one by one to the CLI of new FML VM.

Before doing so I already tried restore full backup from physical appliance to the VM following the advice of a FML admin, but got some serious issues of connectivity to FortiGuard that couldn't be fixed. So I abandoned this quick method and I did it with the above mentioned primitive method that worked well for me.
