I had much trouble in updating some times ago. Only solution to fix was to tftp from a linux system or use solarwinds free tftp server. I recently updated my 50b after failed Upgrade from a win7 system. (disabled firewall and antivirus for that task - offline from any network over LAN1 port) The tip with the linux tftp was from fortinet-support. newmy

I have this problem if i use the " wrong" TFTP-Server. The one that i use and have no problems with is the solarwinds tftp server, like Ulrich posted before...

it seems that the tftp transfer is in " binary" and not " ascii" ! how would you trasnfer the file in ascii mode ???

binary is the right setting. try to rename the image to image.out on the tftp host and try again. with that i had no problems to flash. newmy

I have exactly the same problem when tftp ing firmware images. Downloaded correct image and used 3com tftp program. It constantly fails with the compression error on certain machines. Transfered the downloaded firmware file to another pc and used same 3com tftp program - no problems. Bizarre how it works on one pc but gives compression errors on another yet niether pc shows signs of network problems and I use the same downloaded firmware file and the same tftp program.

Before upload any new download firmware, it' s a good practice check the MD5sum of the downloaded file against fortinet support site. TFTP servers/software problems sometimes are related with file size limitations; i' ve seen of those with ' big sized' firmwares, but not with 60b' s.. Maybe is a good opportunity to give a chance to linux' s tftp server software. Another well known and proven tftp server (for windows) is the free one of solarwinds.com
