FortiConverter

I just picked up a 1001F to replace my 1000D and they didn't include any kind of support for migration. Now my engineer is suggesting I get the FortiConverter service to convert my config from the 1000D to the 1001F, but they're quoting my almost $2k to do this. That seems a bit steep.

Are there any other good methods to convert configs from 1 model to the next?

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

FortiConverter is a one time license which is recommended when  migrating from one device to another. You may refer to this link for more information on FortiConverter:

Without FortiConverter you will have to adjust the config manually. If the new FGT has at least the same interfaces as the old one (like from 100D to 100E or 100F) you could apply it after replacing the first three lines.  Unfortunately this is not the case from 100D to 1001F. So you have to manually modify the config. After this you can probably apply it to the 1001F and then look into config error log on cli to see if anything did not work properly. Don't worry you cannot brick your FGT by restoring a config to it. Serial console is always available or the reset button (if it exists) to get back to factory default and try again :)

Hello levabkomo,

Without Forticonvertor, the only option is to do the configuration manually.
However, the manual configuration might take more time.

Thank you everyone for answering, I will keep it in in my mind. If you're unsure about the migration process or its impact, it's often a good idea to consult with professionals who have experience with Fortinet devices and configuration migrations. If you're a student in school seeking for free essay examples online, go to the https://writinguniverse.com/essay-types/process-essays/ website. Hello levabkomo,

A configuration can be migrated from an older FortiGate device to a new FortiGate device directly from the FortiGate GUI, without having to access the FortiConverter portal.

This is new feature after 7.4.0 version.

Thanks.

Hello Kwan,

I have not gone thru this feature in detail but I believe it will be applicable only when old and new models are the same. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks in advance.
