Has anyone used FortiConverter, and if so, what are your thoughts on it? I am replacing a 40F with an 80F. There is a fair bit of configuration on the 40F, I would think doing it with FortiConverter might take an hour as opposed to about 3 hours manually.
I am planning to buy "FortiGate-80F 1 Year FortiConverter Service for one-time configuration conversion service. " Do I need any other licenses with this?
I upgraded from a FGT 800D to an FGT900G and with the differences in the port types and layout, I used Forticonverter to manage the conversion. It was a huge time saver for me. I would definitely recommend for any upgrades that have a different port configuration on the appliance itself.
My experience with FortiConverter was from other vendor's firewall to FortiGate, and I remember not all the configuration was converted, so I had to convert manually like 40% of the config.
But from FGT to FGT I guess the conversion is much better. You can check the online help to see if there are any limitations.
Usually experienced FGT admins don't need FortiConverter, but if you are not so experienced or if you have some doubt then better use FortiConverter.
