FortiClient and CiscoVPN client

Hello, I' ve ran into a problem where FortiClient and the Cisco VPN client, when installed on the same machine, drop all network interfaces (don' t show up in ipconfig, etc). If I reset the LSPs, winsock, etc...the interfaces come back. I' d like to know if any of you have noticed this problem and if so if you know of a work around. I' m running " vpnclient-win-is-4.8.00.0440-k9.exe" for Cisco VPN client and FortiClient " FortiClientSetup_2.0.148.exe" . The FortiClient is installed w/o anything but the VPN portion installed (no AV, Firewall, webfilter). Thanks

Agreed, the kb is sorely lacking ...that is the first placed I looked for information. I agree with you that there should be a way of resolving multiple VPN clients within Windows (I draw a reference to the limit of IRQs and the way Microsoft circumvented that problem...but I digress) HOWEVER, Fortinet should take care of its customers with a warning nonetheless. How about: In order to install the FortiClient, you must remove other VPN clients prior to install - Similar to the: Please close all your programs in order to proceed with installation for all windows programs. This way, they wouldn' t have to check for other apps installed ...it is just a general message. Oh well... As to the resolution of my clients problems, I am happy to report that the system restore did the trick and I was outa there in less than 5 minutes. (No LSPfix necessary this time.) Thanks

I have never had a problem running The Nortel Contivity and Cisco VPN Clients on the same machine. But the combination of FortiClient and CiscoVPN client is causing problems. Anyone solve this?

The only " solution" I' ve found, and the only one FortiNet recommends, is to only have one of the VPN clients installed at any given time on a given machine. I wish there was a solution to this issue, but this is the only one I' ve came across.

I cannot believe this. I' ve now hosed 2 machines over this issue: my home machine and my laptop. I (used to) use both for work with different clients. I have 1 (ONE!!!!) client who has a Fortigate 60 installed. Not being able to use my Cisco VPN Client led me to install the Forticlient software. Now I can' t connect to anything. And it appears that there is no fix. So that leaves me two options. Not be able to remotely support 1 client (which is not a good thing) or recommend that this client bite the bullet, purchase a PIX, and return the Fortigate. This is ridiculous.

I' m using Virtual PC to get around this problem... martin

I' ve used L2TP and/or PPTP to get around the issue for supporting a customer from my laptop (which has the Cisco IPSEC VPN client and cannot be removed, period). I loaded FortiClient on a desktop for testing/verification of the IPSEC VPN if/when a customer has an issue (also for initial setup/testing).

What about using the GreenBow VPN client for both cisco and fortigate and whatever? Anyone have any luck with that? And what about IPTracker for the mac folks out there? -g

UkWizard, I' ve just been starting to mess about with TheGreenBow and have been fighting with the PIX config...either that or I really need to uninstall the cisco client to get it to work properly (there are some indications that I' ll need to do this.) I haven' t had a chance to try it against the fortigate yet although they do claim to support it.

On my laptop I have both the Cisco VPN client version 4.6.04 (installed first after uninstalling host AV/FW software installing Cisco client, making connection to the VPN concentrator, then re-installing host AV/FW software). I also have Forticlient 2.0.148 with only VPN and webfilter installed. Both work fine, although not at the same time. Just last night I VPN' ed into our campus Cisco VPN concentrator and did some thing, then closed that VPN tunnel and fired up my Forticlient VPN tunnel and did some things. We have been using the Cisco software for some time, but I have only installed the Forticlient recently since we installed our Fortigate 300A' s. I do know that when I didn' t install the Cisco client in the order listed above I got many BSoD' s. I' m running Win XP SP2 with all current updates.
