Is there a way of getting a free limited version FortiAuthenticator VM so I do a proof of concept before purchasing?

You can use FAC with full features without any license for 5 users only.

in addition, there are FortiAuthenticator evaluation licences (good for 60 days) which give you more users (and any other feature depending on user count, like groups, realms, RADIUS clients, etc). Speak to your Fortinet Sales representative regarding an evaluation licence if you want to test FortiAuthenticator more in-depth than the five users you get with an unlicenced VM.
