Firmware FortiGate

A question, what function does the FIRMWARE perform in the FortiGate? I used to call it the team version.

Does the word Firmware mean version? or, what is it

Usually firmware on Fortigate refers to the FortiOS version. For example, if you ask me whats your fortigate firmware , the answer is 7.2.5

As confirmed earlier by my colleague the word firmware means in terms of FortiGate an OS version/ software load on a FortiGate firewall device.

Firmware provides instructions to help hardware start up, communicate with other devices, and perform basic input/output tasks.
