Factory restore of FGT60

Hi all, I purchased an old FGT60 from a hardware reclaiming supplier hoping to be able to use it to keep my kids away from sites they shouldn' t be accessing. So in trying to set it up, the passwords were never reset and the serial console won' t accept any input, so I can' t login as the " maintainer" account. Does anyone have any ideas why I can' t type anything through the serial console (yes I see all the output but key strokes are not being recognized) or if there is a way to set it to factory default without having to login to the unit. There is a jumper inside, but it seems to disable the unit when I switch it. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try the different Baud rate, double check your console setting to match standard .

Thanks Jeff, I am able to see the console output, just it won' t accept input, so baud rate, and settings shouldn' t be the issue.

Thanks Jeff, It isn' t the cable... as I said, I can read everything and I have used the cable on my FG100D without any problems. The issue is the FGT60. Does anyone have any way of clearing the config on the Flash without actually being able to login to the CLI?

Are you able to interrupt the boot process? BTW I had a older FGT60A that exhibit the same and I had to reformat the flash. I adventually traded it in for a new FGT60B. Back to your kids issues. If you have a FGT60 ( not A A B C D ) , than I would not even bother if all you need is child protection to prevent browsing to the internet. Here' s why; The forticlient is free and you could easily install it on their computer & set the categories to allow or whitelist If you want category web url-filtering, you would need an active subscription If this is a FGT60 ( 1st gen ) you couldn' t buy one to begin with ( EoL/EoS issues ) Now if they have handheld devices to include wireless phones/tablets/pads, than this might be challenging ( forticlient ) but you have a host of other means that' s available. I ' ve never used the iOS or Andorid offerings btw so YMMV. But I would look this option 1st and then evaluate if this meets your needs. http://forticlient.com/ Now if you need a fortigate for playing around, a FGT60 would be a great starter
