Enable IGMP querier and allow inter VLAN routing on 100D

Hi,

I have an issue in our network where we have a 100D (will be changed to a 60F soon) and need to pass multicast traffic from VLAN 100 to VLAN200. The switch network is configured for IGMP snooping and all switches are set to passive, the core switch connected to the 100D is set as querier.

I would assume I need to enable IGMP querier on the 100D (and change the core switch to passive) and somehow enable multicast routing from VLAN100 to VLAN200, however I can't seem to find much in the GUI.

Any suggestions on where to look or what I need to enable?

Kind regards,

Tom

Hey Tom,

in principle, FortiGate can forward multicast traffic. The exact configuration depends a bit on the firmware version, though.

Here is one for 7.0: https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortigate/7.0.2/administration-guide/968606/configuring-multicast...
Here is one for 6.4 (which is essentially the same): https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortigate/6.4.4/administration-guide/968606/configuring-multicast...
I hope that helps!

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for the reply! I will give it a try.

Any suggestion on how to set the 100D as IGMP querier or is it best practice to leave the core switch as querier?

Tom

Hey Tim,

I'm honestly not sure which device would be better suited as querier, I haven't dipped more than a toe into the whole multicast topic, I just knew about the guides.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.
