Downloading the latest isn't free?

Hello,

I have some old Fortigate equipment that need the latest version of the firmware, and I just noticed that Fortinet does not provide it until I have a support contract.

Is this true? and I need to purchase the contract to download it for my old equipment?

Hi Jeon

I think it is true, even if it seems like a paradox: you can't download the firmware for free until you purchase a support contract, and in the same time you can't purchase a support contract for a EoSL equipment.

But I think the best solution in this case is to do a trade up. This will allow you to replace your old equipment with a new one with a very interesting discount (I think around 40%). For that you may contact your Fortinet account manager or your Fortinet partner.

Hello AEK,

Thank you very much for your answer. Hmm. Actually I sold it to a client years ago and they have never complained about it until it's EoS. It's 60E. I don't know why but I thought I should upgrade the firmware..Do you think it's worth replacing it althought it seems working without a problem..? the version is V.6.0.4

Thank you again for your answer.

AEK

Hi Jeon

According to Fortinet's product lifs cycle, FG 60E will be EoS in 2026, so you can still purchase a contract for it.

On the other hand, FOS 6.0.4 is EoS and it contains several known vulnerabilities, so you shouldn't use it in production or even at home as front-end firewall. But if it is for your internal (not exposed) lab usage then it can be fine.

Hi AEK,

Thank you for the detailed information. The device is in production for my client. And I thought It's not a big deal...maybe I should inform them about it and get the OS updated ASAP. Thank you again for your reply. :)
