Downgrade Firmware 61F

Hi,

I have an FG61F and have downgraded the firmware from FGT61F-7.2.6-FW-build1575 to FGT_61F-v6-build6188. After the downgrade, I am unable to access the Fortigate GUI page, and no status LED lights up when I connect to the Fortigate port. What should I do to restore the device to Firmware Version 7?

Hi @uearn ,

Can you access the firewall via CLI using SSH or Telnet? If not, please connect a console cable to the firewall and check for any error messages you're receiving.

Thanks,

Hi @msanjaypadma

I have resolved the issue now. I have an additional question: If I want to downgrade the firmware from v7.2.6 to v6.2.3, what version should I downgrade to first, in order?

sjoshi

Hi uearn,

If you have the working config on v6.2.3 then you can do a flash format and reimage v6.2.3 and restore the config.

If there is no working config on v6.2.3 then you can follow the reverse path of the upgrade path. Though downgrading is not recommended

Firmware downgrades are generally the reverse of the upgrade path.

For example:

  • Upgrade path: 7.2.3 -> v7.2.6 -> v7.4.2
  • Downgrade path: v7.4.2 -> v7.2.6 -> v7.2.3

Hi @uearn ,

You need to use console access to see whether you can access the FGT device or not.  If yes, run factoryreset.  Otherwise, if you have support coverage, open a ticket for RMA process.

Hi @uearn ,

First of all, we do not support downgrade.  So there is no downgrade path.

However, what you can do:

1) You can downgrade to V6.2.3 directly;

2) You'd better factory reset the box, and then configure the box from scratch.
