Does anyone use the default Fortiguard DNS of 96.45.45.45 and .46. Ive had issues recently where my 200f was unable to contact them causing my Fortiguard services to go down and affect our web filtering service among other things.
I've seen people complain about these DNS servers in the past and I'm beginning to see why.
What do people like to use instead of the default?

Fortiguard DNS servers can be considered as just another service you getting from Fortiguard, if you are facing frequent issues with this DNS you can change the DNS to the popular publlic DNS server (8.8.8.8 ,4.2.2.2 etc) or a private DNS server on your network. Regarding the fortiguard services going down, did we confirm if that was related to DNS or any other issue?
Hi
You can use also:
Primary DNS Server 208.91.112.53
Secondary DNS Server 208.91.112.52
If you will face any problems check the KB - https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Troubleshooting-Tip-Unable-to-connect-to-FortiGuard-serv...
Best regards,
Erlin
You can either use Fortiguard DNS servers or use public DNS such as 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. When either of the DNS servers gets unreachable please verify if DNS protocol is enabled under Network - DNS.
The Fortiguard DNS servers is a add on service which is provided along with the Fortiguard. You can also use your private DNS servers instead if in case you have an internal domains hosted.
