Current running on VM and no hardware disk present but I wish to use current DIsk System as log
diagnose hardware deviceinfo disk
Disk SYSTEM(boot) 40.0GiB type: IDE [Virtio Disk] dev: /dev/vda
partition 231.0MiB, 93.0MiB free mounted: Y label: dev: /dev/vda1(boot) start: 2048
partition 1.7GiB, 1.4GiB free mounted: Y label: dev: /dev/vda2(boot) start: 526336
can I partition to use as log and how ?
If you want to use a larger log disk, the only officially supported method in the latest firmware versions is to redeploy the VM with a larger disk.
You don't have control on how Fortigate partitions the disk, so the answer is no, you cannot.
EDIT: There is no documented way to change the partition, Fortinet, internally do have way of doing it, but they do not tend to disclose how.
