Difference port number and protocol number

Can anyone explain what is the difference port number and protocol number in layman's term.

Is is cool defination of  port number and protocol number.

Port number - which services do you want to use.

Protocol number - How do you want to communicate.

Protocol numbers are generally referring to IP protocol numbers at L3 or Network layer:

Port numbers on the other hand are referring to TCP/UDP port numbers at L4 or Transport layer:
