DAC cables between FortiGate 601f and Fortiswtich 1048e

Hey guys,

We have a 601f and a 1048e, and we want the fastest possible link between them. The 601f datasheet says it has 4x 10GE SFP+/SFP ports and 4x 25GE/10GE SFP28/SFP+ Ultra Low Latency Slots. The 1048e datasheet says it has 6x 40 GE QSFP+ ports or 4x 100 GE QSFP28 ports. So, we purchased DAC cables with a 1x 100GE QSFP28 connector spilled out to 4x 25GE SFP+ connectors, which don’t work. We also purchased DAC cables with a 1x 40GE QSFP+ connector spilled out to 4x 10GE SFP+ connectors, which also don’t work. Here is a video for a little better reference.

We wanted 100GE between each 1048e and its primary 601f and then a 40GE crosslink for our HA cluster. It looks like the fastest we can get it is 40GE to each by using all the ports at 10GE, but man, that takes up A LOT of 10GE ports on the 1048e switches.

Does this gear support the DAC cables, and if so, how do we make them work?

John

What model is the DAC cable? Does it show up in the Transceiver Compatibility matrix as supported for your switch? https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortiswitch/hardware/compatible-transceivers?model=all

What firmware versions are you running on the FSW and FGT?

Have you manually set your interface speeds? Sometimes that can help get connections working over an SFP.

Cheers,
Graham

We figured this out. It wasn't working because the FEC needed to be turned off on the FortiGate Ports.
