Confused with online training track

Hi there! My apologies if this is not the right sub-forum. I just enroll to take the NS1 online course and I' m quickly redirected to take a quiz or test. Were I' m supposed to go to read the material before taking the test/quiz? Thanks.

Hi everybody,

A clarified track is now on Fortinet's web site:

http://www.fortinet.com/training/courses/index.html

Note: If you are a network administrator, NSE 1-3 is probably *not* for you. It covers networking basics and pre-sales considerations such as solutions. If you previously took FCNSA and/or FCNSP, those are equivalent to the new NSE 4.

Anything  changing on FCESP track? And do you plan on a new marticula in 2015? I was told some changes where going to come about but I didn't follow back with an email  to bonnie/connie ( can't recall name ) in training.

Sorry. Currently, there's nobody with that name in Training. (Was a few years ago.)

Whether we will maintain the separate Specialist certifications, I will double check.

But at minimum, FortiMail *is* part of the new NSE track (as FortiWeb and a couple of the other major new products). And this affects NSE 8, too, if you choose to take that exam. In order to do well on the NSE 8 certification, for example, you need to know at least a couple of the products covered in NSE 6 (plus, of course, expert knowledge and topics from NSE 4, 5, and 7).

See new equivalent names and differences here:

Thanks

That  overview really helped out . I now see in NSE6 that it's really a bundling of platform/technologies.

You're welcome.

Regarding the specialist courses:

[ol]
  • Specialist certifications will be going away.FortiMail will be one of the options in NSE 6. Requirement is to take/pass 4 of the (currently 9) courses for specialized appliances.[/ol]You can still take the individual FortiMail-specific course, like before, regardless of whether you want to go for the NSE 6 certification exam or not. I believe a course completion certificate is still possible for this. This is *not* a result of passing a Pearson VUE proctored exam, and that's why it's not technically called a "certification." (The terms sound alike, unfortunately.)

    tcp-ack I understand.

So those like myself who have taken FCESP previously , do we have anything to gain from the past certification track? or was this pretty much a wasted certification? Basically does it apply anywhere in the newer certification outline?

emnoc, as you've probably noticed, the certification team addressed that. FCESP has become "FortiMail Specialist." However, FortiMail also meets part of the criteria for NSE 6: passing any 4 Specialist exams = NSE 6.
