I have a problem with firmware upgrades of a FGT-Cluster.
A part of the configuration gets lost after upgrading the firmware of the cluster.
I don't even know the steps/update path of the last time.
But this time the upgrade was from 7.2.3 to 7.2.4.
A restore of the configuration helps.
I guess it has something to do with the save mode - set to manual instead of automatic.
Next time I will change the save mode before the cluster gets upgraded?!
But I just wanted to ask, if there is anyone else, who faced the same problem?
Go to Solution.
As already suspected, the save mode was the cause of the configuration loss.
But the problem occurs only, when it's a cluster.
A standalone device, which has save mode manual, can be updated without any problems.
Final words: Save mode "manual" and Cluster aren't a good combination (yet)!

Hello Immu,AS I understand there were two upgrades performed. First time when the upgrade was done the upgrade path was not followed. Hence the configuration was lost. However this time with the direct upgrade from 7.2.3 to 7.2.4. Still the configuration is lost. Please correct me if I am wrong. Also please share me the below command outputshow full system global | grep cfg-saveRegardsNagaraju.
at the first time the update path was followed correctly.
I can't just remember the step(s).
Or is there any history on the FGT, where I can look up after that?
hostname # show full system global | grep cfg-saveset cfg-save manual
We have a few FGT's, but this is the only one with save mode "manual".
So I guess, that it could be the cause.
Do you have any similar problems?
Hello Immu,cfg-save is automatic by default.Yes this change might have impacted the configuration loss. Please refer the below link for more details on ithttps://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-Configuration-file-save-mode-for-configura...RegardsNagaraju.
