Cli allows me togin but won' t except any commands????

I have my fortigate 50a and I can' t login to it through http.. so I connected to it through hyperterminal and it allows me to login but won' t allow me to execute a factory reset.. it does allow me to execute " exit and system info" command" it says it is in transparent mode and root VDOM.. which I think is keeping me from executing any commands any ideas???

Welcome to the forums. 2 things I would try: 1) Another terminal emulator. Putty works as does TerraTerm. Sometimes HyperTerminal just flakes out. 2) Are you sure you' re running the command correctly?
exec factoryreset
Hope that helps Also, from any point in the CLI, entering a question mark (?) will give you all the available command options.

This got nothing to do with your firmware version. I bet your admin priviledges are insufficient. Please search the forums for ' password recovery' . This way, you can clear the ' admin' password and may regain super-admin status. Another possibility is VDOMs: can you enter ' config global' after login? And then ' exec ?' to see your options. A 50A might run v3.00 MR7 but probably no v4.00 code.

I tried using the maintainer login but it always gives me hash length issues.. I do not have the latest firmware installed.. 2.8 on one and 1.2 on the other.. 2.8 being the one I have the issue with, is there anyway someone could share the latest most compatible firmware.. also virus defs would be most awesomely appreciated..since I can' t extend my contract due to eos date being April 2012.. Thank you!

Also, is there anyway to bypass the vdom..? don' t understand why I wouldn' t be able to obtain an ip? I tested after setting it up.. than a few days later I can' t get in.. I didn' t have it connected to the internet.. i just got tired of fusing with it.. due to the fact the 2.8 firmware doesn' t have a set up wizard..? and I am a noob to fortigate cli..only set up...?

Are you saying that login as maintainer worked but then you got an error? What are you able to do and what not? Reloading the firmware will not clear the config. If you have trouble because of access rights this won' t help you much. From the boot menu you could format the flash drive and download a firmware image via XMODEM or tftp. Would your IT knowledge be sufficient to do that?

He/She doesn' t have access to any firmware since the units are EOL.

Well, I got maintainer login to work once and I guess that was a shot in the dark since it took forever to get it to go through.. I get invalid hash length is to long.. I even copy and paste the password..I can login and check system status and exit that is all.. and I have tried different emulators... and yes even if it wouldn' t fix my issue with one, it could fix the issue with the other one that has 1.8 firmware I believe?

Not recently.. but I got maintainer to work only one on both units since I have owned them.. I have seen people sharing firmware on here.. but not the one I need..
