Cisco VPN connection on iPhone works, but can't connect to LAN

I had a similar issue using the FortiClient app for IOS.  If I have split tunneling enabled, I can't connect to the LAN.  If I turn it off, it works fine, but all internet traffic routes through the office internet.  Maybe a similar issue?
