Change Firewall but use same fortidyndns name.

Is this possible?

The end user is changing firewall of a different model.

He wants to retain the same fortidyndns name in the new firewall - also fortigate.

He does not want the user to change the vpn login because the fortidyndns changes.

Hi @BusinessUser

Thanks for your post regarding the query.

You can raise a ticket with the support team, so that the FQDN mapped with the old serial number can be deleted first and then you can add it for the new device serial number.

I hope your query will be resolved with this, in case your query is cleared you can mark the solution for same.

Regards

@bhishek

As long as the name resolves to the IP of the firewall and the certificate is correct and trusted it works. This is standard stuff and will have no adverse effect on anything.

You can try to go through the steps in the following article:

https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-Transfer-the-DDNS-record-to-new-FortiGate/...

If that doesn't work, create a support ticket and we will be happy to help you out.

Yes, it is possible to change the firewall while keeping the same FortiDDNS name. However, this requires some manual configuration on the new firewall.

First, you need to create a new DDNS record on the new firewall with the same FortiDDNS name as the old firewall. Then, you need to update the VPN clients to use the new DDNS record.

Before you answer my question, have you tried it yourself?
