Can you White List a FortiGuard Blocked Site?

Hello All My client asked me to Allow a certian site that is currently blocked on our Web Filter. I have added in the site into the URL Filter and set the properties to allow. From the Web Filter Profile -> Advance Filter-> we have the URL Filter. Message when trying to access the site: Web Page Blocked! You have tried to access a web page which is in violation of your internet usage policy. URL: www.tasolsolar.co.za/ Category: Sports To have the rating of this web page re-evaluated please click here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The site is about solar energy and FortiGuard has it as sports, which is blocked on our Web Filter Profile. Please advise

You can re-classify a URL or link via a rating override (see below), but the URL filter (that is tied to the web filter profile) should have also worked -- assuming it is applied to a firewall policy covering web traffic. When posting a question it would help us a lot if you also provide the make/model of Fortigate you are using and also the firmware installed on it.

If you go here and have Fortiguard re-evaluate the site, that should take care of things. They are pretty quick about it. They say 24 hours, but I have gotten results in under 6. YMMV

You can use that link posted above if the site needs to be recategorized, meaning it is in the wrong category based on its content. The site above, www.tasolsolar.co.za/ is a good example of this. It was categorized as sports but it isn' t a sports website. Just make sure it' s for that purpose and not because you have an organizational need to allow a site that is correctly in a blocked category.. that is what the Rating Override is for. Some organizations also employ a whitelist/blacklist by using the local URL filter in combination with the FortiGuard service. This gives you the ability to whitelist wildcard sites as well as specific URL' s that are absolute and do not require communication to FortiGuard to work. For example, you might use the local URL filter to whistlist your domains. Hope this helps. Cheers!
