Hi All,
I have a fortigate 30d. I am trying to set it up for transparent mode but as soon as I change to transparent, set the IP/Subnet and Gateway it applies the settings and then I cannot reach the web address to finish the setup of the unit. Is anyone else having this issue? can anyone give me any suggestions? tips? tricks?
Hello All,
I was able to get it figured out. The guide here: http://www.fortinet.com/videos/inserting_fortigate_unit_without_changing_network_configuration_trans... is missing something (at least as it pertains to my situation).
In order to get this working I reset to factory defaults (after saving my configuration). Once the device is in transparent mode http and https is disabled on all interfaces. the only way to configure it is through the "forti explorer" software and the USB-MGMT Port. Once I realized this I was able to configure this successfully. so Pro-Tip: use the USB MGMT to set it up in the first place.
Thank you,
Thanks for the follow-up! Might prove to be invalueable one day...
I usually do this kind of "low level" stuff from the console IF but I guess the 30D is lacking a serial port...
Hey Ede,
ya you're totally right. It does have a Mini-USB MGMT port. this is pretty "basic" as it requires the special fortiexplorer software and you have access to the GUI interface from the program.
the biggest issue is that when you set it in transparent mode, it sets the management IP to the WAN port and since that port is the assigned address it needs to have http/https enabled and it doesn't. you may be able to avoid the USB option if you enable these accesses prior to changing to transparent mode, I didn't try that.
Thank you,
Lucas
