Blocked Web Pages - Web Filter Reset

So this morning most all of our internet traffic out was being blocked by our Fortigate. Even regular sites like Google, CNN and others we don' t intentionally block. We simply reset the Web Filter service (by turning it off, apply and then turning it on again) on the main dashboard of our Fortigate and then everything started to work again. From what I have heard this has happened on occasion and a quick reset always fixes it. Something gets corrupt and a reset is needed. Does this happen to anyone else or sound familiar? We have Fortigate 600C v5.0.

Steven, I also have a 600C running 5.0.7. If you are running 5.0, you definitely want to upgrade to at least 5.0.7, if not 5.0.9. We put terabytes of traffic through our 600C with lots of web filtering and have not encountered the problem you described. We generally do a reboot every 60-200 days, depending on power outages and/or firmware updates.

Though we have smaller units (80CM/200B/200D), this occasionally happens if the fgt enters conserve mode or is not able to reach the FortiGuard servers (e.g. DNS or routing, ISP related, etc.). There are KB articles on how to resolve such issues, such as this one, or that one. But usually the quick fix for us is to either reboot the fgt device an/or " force push" an Antivirus/IPS update, which was a recommended fix back in the 3.0 days.
