We don't use any services like VOIP that require special bandwidth considerations. What I want to do is to make sure that our setup allows for all available bandwidth to be used, yet not allow for specific bandwidth hogs to cause a poor experience for other users.
So, if someone is downloading a large presentation file or program install file from a website, I want them to use as close to our max bandwidth as possible if there is low internet traffic outside of that download. However, if others start using the internet for web, email while the download is taking place, I need those users to not have a slow experience due to the large download currently taking place.
Do I need traffic shaping to allow for that to happen? Or, is that really the default way that the fortigate operates out of the box?
