Activate Fortigate Evaluation License
Hi everyone,
i've downloaded a fortigate VMware Appliance (v7.2.4) and want to run it in permanent trial mode as described in the official support article:
Permanent trial mode for FortiGate-VM | FortiGate / FortiOS 7.2.4 (fortinet.com)
When i try to activate the evalution license over the https interface, i always get the error message: "Error downloading license: Invalid serial number".
When i try to activate the evaluation license over console, i get the error code 61 - "Failed to download VM license".
I'm using a new and never before used fortigate account (with a new mail address) and the vm has full internet access ("execute ping google.com" from the console works).
Do you have any idea, what the problem could be?
best regards,
Hannes

Can you try and ping update.fortiguard.net? Is it resolvable and reachable?
What is the output of diagnose debug vm-print-license ?
Can you try exec update now and see what happens?
Take a look at this doc and try the steps in here: https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-Unable-to-activate-FortiCare-Unable-to-con...
And finally, make sure traffic upstream is not blocked, is there a firewall or another device that could be blocking traffic?

@jbeesley : Thank you very much for your help.
In the debug log i figured out that the appliance was still trying to connect with an old forticare account which was already registered with an eval license and therefore not able get another eval license.

I too have the same issue. Except I don't have any Activation type options. It's asking for a full license.
Enclosed, please find print screen.

I tried for latest version, i could download the license file from portal and successfully uploaded in to firewall. But it was not working for me because earlier i used trial version.
For latest version you can see FGT version which will not work without trial license, but up to 7.2.5 you can download VMOS. this will work trial version without asking key.
