Hi there,
Currently there is no way to troubleshoot SMTP settings. Can we add functionality to send test emails from the Fortigate, and see SMTP responses?
Hi simonl
You can test mail-settings in CLI with command: diagnose log alertmail test
Successful test looks like this:
Alert Mail Test
Message body (log level = 1):
1st Line
2nd Line
(2019-12-04 07:19:26)
Best wishes Pathfinder
Hi Pathfinder,
Thanks for the response. That command doesn't return anything in my Fortigate 100E 6.2.1.
Can I assume that either the command doesn't work or the test failed?
Thanks,
Simon
Hi simonl
Please google for Fortigate CLI Reference. Search for depending Reference to your FortiOS-Release.
The command i posted is correct. Probably there is something wrong in your settings.
Regards Marc
Hi Marc,
That command doesn't exist in any CLI reference doc. I've searched for it many times.
It only exists in 3 places - in another forum post, in a guide for setting up email alerts in Gmail, and in this forum post.
I don't doubt that the command is correct, but it still doesn't test the SMTP settings of the Fortigate, it only tests email alerts.
Simon
Hi Simon
I agree, that it does test email alerts. When settings are correct, test-alertmail will be sent.
I have no idea how to test smtp-settings. Best way is, to send testmail. When it works settings are fine. If not, change settings.
Marc
i know this post is old but i was trying to find the same information and found it.
In order to troubleshoot email alerts being sent/not sent, you need to :
diagnose debug application alertmail 255
diagnose debug enable
diagnose log alertmail test
once finished, disable and reset debug:
diagnose debug disable
diagnose debug reset
regards,
NP
also add in
diag sniffer packet any "port 25"
You can always see if their layer3/4 connectivity to the mail gateway.
