APS Questions in Fortigate

Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask a couple of questions in case they sound familiar to anyone:

1- Question:

I log into my AP through Managed FortiAPs and see that it has a MAC address. On my laptop, I have NetSpot installed so I can see what SSIDs I'm receiving and what MAC addresses they have. I see that the MAC address of the SSID I'm receiving isn't the same as my AP (although it is associated with FORTIGATE), although it's very similar. How can I see the MAC address that AP is sending and that it matches the one NetSpot analyzes?

2- Question:

How can I see the actual power in dB transmitted by an AP?

Thank you and best regards.

Hello again Juanma 96 :)

I found this solution. Can you tell me if it helps, please?

To see the MAC address that the FortiAP is using to broadcast its SSIDs, as well as to verify that it matches what NetSpot is analyzing, you can follow these steps:

  1. Access the FortiAP Interface: Log into your FortiAP through the FortiGate management interface. You can typically find the MAC address of the FortiAP in the device's dashboard or under the "Managed FortiAPs" section.

  2. Check the SSID Configuration: Within the FortiAP settings, navigate to the wireless settings or SSID configuration section. Here you should be able to see the MAC address associated with the SSID being broadcasted.

  3. Use a Wireless Scanner: Since you already have NetSpot installed, you can use it to scan for the SSIDs in your vicinity. The MAC address displayed in NetSpot should match the MAC address shown in the FortiAP interface if they are indeed the same access point.

Regarding the actual power transmitted by an AP in dB:

  1. Access the FortiAP Interface: Similar to checking the MAC address, you can log into the FortiAP through the FortiGate interface.

  2. Check Radio Settings: Look for the radio settings or wireless settings section. Here you may find information about the transmit power settings, typically measured in dBm (decibels relative to 1 milliwatt).

  3. Use Command Line Interface (CLI): If you are comfortable using the CLI, you can access the FortiGate CLI and run commands to check the transmit power settings. For example, you can use the command get wireless access-point to view detailed information about the access points, including their transmit power.

  4. Consult Documentation: For specific commands or settings, refer to the FortiAP or FortiGate documentation for detailed instructions.

If you need further assistance or specific commands, the Fortinet documentation or support resources can be very helpful.
