A javascript error occured in the main process - FortiClient VPN

Hello,

Since I have this computer I've been having issues with the free FortiClient VPN software. The software works fine until you reboot the computer, then it won't open anymore. I get an error message saying "A javascript error occured in the main process" and "Uncaught exception: TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'TraceLog') at new logger (C:\ProgramFiles\Fortinet\FortiClient\resources\app.asar\assets\js\main.js:24121:36)..."

Full error:

The only thing that seems to work is to delete the software and reinstall it, after that it keeps working fine until I restart the computer. After reboot, the same error appears.

We use this software on 500+ computers in our company, although mine is the only one that has this issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello AEK,

I'm not sure which version it is since I can't start the software. The fileversion is 7.4.3.1790. I guess this should be the last version out since I installed it from the website yesterday.

My windows version is Windows 11 24H2, build 26100.3775

Hi Dakota

As per my experience, some possible reasons are:

  • Network driver (you may try update or change the NIC driver)
  • Windows update (try update or rollback some Windows updates)

Also try find what's different between your laptop and colleagues laptops, in terms of updates, drivers, AV, and so.

You may also try install FCT VPN 7.4.2, and if it doesn't help you may try 7.2.9.

Hello AEK,

There is no known difference between this computer and others. There are users that have the same model, same Windows version, same HP and Intel drivers, same AV, etc. who do not have this issue.

Updating/reinstalling the Windows and network drivers did not help unfortunately.

This still seems to be an issue in the latest FortiClient version. More people are starting to get these errors.
