Description This article describes how to recover the admin password on FortiVoice. This procedure will require the reboot of the FortiVoice .
Scope FortiVoice v6.X.X
Solution

Resources needed:

  • Console cable.
  • Terminal software such as Putty.exe (Windows) or Terminal (MacOS).
  • Serial number of the FortiVoice device.

Steps:

  1. Connect the computer to the appliance via the Console port on the back of the unit. Virtual instances will not have any physical port to connect in this case, use the supplied VM Hosts' console connection utility.
  2. Open a terminal software. (For example: putty, moba, tera term).
  3. Connect to the appliance using the following settings:

Speed  Baud                         9600
Data Bits                           8Bit
Parity                              None
Stop Bits                              1
Flow Control     No Hardware Flow Control
Com Port             The correct com-port

  1. The appliance responds with the name or hostname. (If no response, try pressing 'enter').
  2. Reboot the appliance. If there is no power button, disconnect the power adapter and reconnect it after 10 seconds.
  3. Wait for the appliance name and login prompt to appear. The terminal window displays something similar to the output below:

login:

  1.  Type in the username: maintainer
  2. The password is bcpb plus the serial number of the appliance (the letters of the serial number are in UPPERCASE format). For example: bcpbFO2HDT3A12000072. There is no indicator of when the allotted time runs out, so multiple attempts may be required to succeed.
  3. Connect to the FortiVoice and change the admin password.
  4. To change the admin password, type the following in a unit where vdoms are not enabled:

config system admin
    edit admin
        set password {psswrd>
    end

Note:

If the version of FortiVoice is v7.x.x or newer, then the procedure to recover the password is to do a clean install. The procedure is referenced below in the related article section.
