This article describes how to configure the 'Follow-Me' feature alongside 'Call-Handling' in FortiVoice.

This allows calls to an extension to be transferred to another destination when the extension owner is not available.

Solution

The 'Follow-Me' and 'Call Handling' features in FortiVoice allow to seamlessly manage the incoming calls by forwarding them to another destination when it is not available. 

 

 Configure 'Follow-Me' for an Extension:

  1. In the FortiVoice web interface, go to Extensions -> Extension Settings.
  2. Select the extension to set up 'Follow-Me'.
  3. Under the Follow-Me section, select the Enable Follow-Me checkbox to enable this feature.
  4. Enter the phone number or extension where calls are to be forwarded in the Forward to the Phone Number field.
  5. Configure the Ring Time Before Forwarding to specify how long the call should ring at the extension before being forwarded. This allows some time to answer the call if available.
  6. Select 'Save' to save your settings.

 

Configure 'Call Handling' Rules:

  1. In the FortiVoice web interface, go to Call Handling -> Call Handling Rules.
  2. Select the rule to edit or create a new rule by clicking Add Rule.
  3. In the rule configuration page, set the Call Handling Type to 'Follow-Me'.
  4. Under the Follow-Me Settings section, select the extension previously configured with the 'Follow-Me' feature.
  5. Optionally, set other conditions or time schedules for when this rule should apply.
  6. Select 'Save' to save the rule.

 

Apply the 'Call Handling' Rule to an Incoming Number:

  1. Still in the Call Handling Rules section, select Call Handling Routes.
  2. Select the route that corresponds to the incoming number to apply the 'Follow-Me' rule.
  3. In the route configuration page, under Call Handling Rules, select the 'Follow-Me' rule created or edited in the previous step.
  4. Select 'Save' to apply the rule to the incoming number.

 

Test the Configuration:

To ensure that the 'Follow-Me' feature is working as expected, test it by calling the extension associated with 'Follow-Me' from an external number. Verify that the call is forwarded to the specified destination when no desired.
