Description

This article describes how FortiTester can generate various kinds of traffic for testing purposes on other devices and how the FortiTester is set up for testing proxy traffic. When testing on a proxy environment, the setup is a bit different.

Scope FortiTester with proxy sessions.
Solution

The below example refers to a lab-based FortiTester using Forti Proxy in the KVM environment.

 

Step 1: Setup the FortiProxy LAN interfaces with IPs from 2 different VLANs as below:

  • Configure the explicit proxy and the proxy policy:

Step 2: Access the FortiTester using the management IPs.

Step 3: Select the Performance Icon on the FortiTester.

Step 4: Go to HTTP -> CPS -> Create New. Setup as the screenshot below and press 'OK'.

Step 5: Set up the next window as follows:

The server and client should be connected to the 2 different VLAN subnets:

Under Server -> Profile, change the proxy port according to the Explicit proxy port setting. The below example is using port 8080.

Change the file download size under Action and set the value from 1 MB and above.

On the Forti Proxy Configure the following.

Note :

Make sure to enable a UTM feature with at least certificate inspection to view the proxy session count in GUI or CLI:

Step 8: After setting up the above, save what has been entered and press 'Start' to run the test on the FortiTester.
