Solution

Observing the following symptoms:

  •  The output of the 'diagnose switch-controller mac-cache' command shows no clients.
  • The 'exec switch-controller get-sync-status all' command displays a PENDING sync status.

Example output:

running-clients:
VLANID PORTID MAC LAST SEEN(secs ago) INTF-NAME
No client found

managed-switch: S124xxxxxx15 vfid: 0

Cause:

This issue can occur if the HTTPS protocol is disabled on the switch interface.

Resolution:

Ensure that HTTPS is enabled on the internal interface of the switch. FortiGate uses HTTPS to push and synchronize configurations with FortiSwitch. By default, HTTPS is enabled on all switches.

If it has been disabled, re-enable it to restore proper functionality.
